I don’t think I’m alone in saying this is one of the most disturbingly-awesome, wonderfully-strange films I’ve seen in the history of ever.

Thunderbolt & Lightfoot, a 1974 flick that pazam & I semi-watched at the back bar of Jackalope a few Wednesday nights ago, starring a young Clint Eastwood and even younger Jeff Bridges, should really be re-named: Hot & Hotter.
Oh yeah, and we could definitely watch it at 40s if we wanted to. For sure.
Just received note from Amazon.com that Gymkata will now be available on DVD as of 30 Jan 2007. For only $14.
Dust off the pommel horse.
So, my friend Di works at the Dept. of Labour and has recently discovered very old Occupational Safety Hazard videos and movies from the 70s and 80s. Tho quite short in length (usu. <15 min.), the titles alone grab you like honey. For example "Craning with Confidence!" (as in how to use a crane with confidence, yes). There was another one from 70s Australia where "Misappropriate Murray" walks into work after having just bought a bottle of OJ and a Playboy. While perusing the centrefold, he sets his OJ next to a similiar-sized bottle of brake fluid. As you may have guessed, Murray was too distracted by a belly button staple to notice that he picked up the brake fluid instead of his OJ. Hi-jinks ensued .... such as the last scenario where he sticks the hose end of an air compressor up a co-worker's bum. Yes, you read that right. That's just to drive the point home that you shouldn't anally inflate your co-workers to explosion. Note that, amigos.
Di has decided to take some home and review them. Here's last night's gold nugget:
"OSH Training video B116
Where’s Danny?
A lugubriously narrated tale of hasty safety practices in the workplace.
Johnny, the foreman, is constantly being pressured by management to get the job done quicker.
Talks about safety are intrusive and unwelcome
I think we all know where Danny is.
Pan to Johnny telling the grieving widow the bad news.
Finish with a very realistic shot of Danny’s caved in head.
Set in 1970’s Britain - it was like The Professionals and The Sweeney.
My favourite yet. “
So, I think that NZ Metric 40s could start off with an unusual twist — training videos!
Reporting live.
OK, so I found a place and move in on Thursday. I think that there is a DVD player. If not, I’ll find one for cheap. Then, I’ll have to initiate the 40(N)z krewe. Suggestions to deflower the kiwis — cinematically, of course.
Still looking for metric 40s.

I just watched this movie. It is horribly awesome! We need to watch this for 40s. You will hate me for the 1st 15 or 20 minutes, but after that it ROCKS!! Collage kids on the way to spring break get lost and end up in a Southern hick town and are invited to stay for the Pleasant Valley Guts and Glory Festival. It turns out the town residents are stuck on getting revenge for the Civil War by killing and eating them! There are some fun killings, lots of bubbbies, girl on girl action, even a bi guy for me, AND Freddy Kruger is in it as the town Mayor. He has an eye patch w/ the confederate flag on it. This is a tribute to Hershel Gordon Lewis’s 2000 Maniacs from 1964.

October 24th. I’m sure it’s straight to video. Full Moon productions

and the antagonist (or maybe hero)

A few people have asked how to include images in posts, so here’s how:
To include a pic that’s hosted somewhere else, just click the Insert Image button (looks like a tree) above the post box and paste in the URL.
To include a pic from your computer, use the Upload tab on the posting page to upload it, then on the Browse tab (which appears after you upload something), click on the image and select “Send to editor” from the pop-up menu. The pop-up menu also allows you to control stuff like whether to include a thumbnail or the original image, and whether the image should also be a link to the image or the page. You should select these options before you “Send to editor”.
